Our Mission

Badam Film is dedicated to supporting and promoting independent filmmakers from developing countries. We aim to elevate artists working in documentary and creative non-fiction storytelling.

Our support focuses on important stories in their early stages through grants, mentorship programs, and community screenings to expand the dialogue over important issues of our time that would otherwise be overlooked.

FAQs

  • Badam Film supports filmmakers who live and work in Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa and are working on documentary or creative nonfiction feature-length film projects.

Badam Film also supports feature films by filmmakers from eligible regions living in diaspora (e.g., dual nationality, refugee status, or residency permit) in a non-eligible region. However, only films shot within the eligible regions will be considered.

The fund supports documentary or creative nonfiction feature-length films only. Shorts, virtual reality projects, and films specially made for galleries/museums or television are not considered.

The artistic quality and the possibility of project completion are the main criteria for our selection committee.

  • Badam Film support is given through the Badam Film Fund.

At this moment, applications are based on invitation only. We hope you understand; please sign up for our newsletter to keep updated on future projects or open calls from the foundation.

  • The selection committee will pick between 3 to 5 projects per year on a rolling basis.

Due to the amount of projects we invite to submit, only one project by the same director (individual or collective) or producer will be selected per year. We ask the filmmakers to chose which project is of most importance to them.

Additionally, we will not consider a project by the same director or producer until the previously supported project is completed.

  • Currently, we grant between $10,000 to $20,000 USD per project per year.

Supported projects will be required to report to Badam Film annually on the film's status. Additionally, the supported filmmakers will become part of a larger network of artists that they can be connected with on a case-by-case basis.

In return, after the film's completion, Badam Film requires front and end credits with the Badam Film Fund logo in the final copy and the right to screen the film privately for its supporters.
